State of AI Pricing
June 2026
Every month we re-verify the pricing of 45 AI tools against their official pricing pages — by machine where vendors allow it, by hand where they block bots. This is what changed, what died, and where the internet is still quoting prices that no longer exist.
The June numbers:
💵 Median entry price across the market: $15/mo (Entry Price Index baseline = 100)
🔄 5 verified reprices · 🪦 1 product discontinued · 🚨 4 stale-data alerts on widely-circulated prices
1. GitHub Copilot quietly became a usage-billed product
The headline change of the month. Copilot's announced "shift toward usage-based billing" landed as a full restructure: every plan now runs on AI credits (1 credit = $0.01). Pro stays $10/mo but includes $15 of monthly credits; Pro+ is $39 with $70; and a new Max plan at $100/mo carries $200 in credits for sustained agent workflows. The $19 Business seat vanished from the consumer plans page entirely.
Why it matters: the sticker price is now a floor, not a ceiling. If your team runs agent-heavy workflows, budget from credit burn — not the plan price. Full breakdown →
2. The internet is still recommending a product that shut down 14 months ago
Tome — a staple of "best AI presentation tools" listicles — discontinued its standalone product on April 30, 2025. It is still being recommended, with prices, across comparison sites today. This is the second zombie recommendation we've flagged this quarter, after OpenAI pulled consumer Sora access in April and "best AI video" lists kept pointing readers at a ChatGPT subscription for video it no longer includes. 3. Stale prices: the 20%+ error you'd never notice
Spot checks against official pricing pages this month found widely-circulated prices that are simply wrong:
- Luma Dream Machine — popular listicles quote $23.99/$59.99/$149.99. The official page says $30/$90/$300 monthly. Anyone budgeting from a listicle is underestimating by 20%+.
- TrendSpider — the $54/$91/$122 prices quoted across comparison sites (ours included, until this month) were a promotional snapshot that no longer exists. List pricing is $89/$149/$199.
- Writesonic — still cited as a budget AI writer at ~$16/mo; it has repositioned as an AI search-visibility platform starting at $79/mo.
4. The cheapest way into every category, verified this month
| Category | Median entry | Cheapest paid |
|---|---|---|
| AI Image | $10.00/mo | $8/mo |
| AI Presentations | $10/mo | $8/mo |
| AI Design | $10/mo | $7.99/mo |
| AI Music | $10.52/mo | $8/mo |
| AI Video | $16.50/mo | $6.40/mo |
| AI Coding | $18/mo | $10/mo |
| AI Voice | $19/mo | $6/mo |
| AI Assistants | $20/mo | $20/mo |
| AI Trading & Investing | $38.19/mo | $17/mo |
| AI Writing | $41.50/mo | $7.50/mo |
Method, honestly stated
45 tools across 10 categories. 22 verified directly against official pricing pages by our monthly pipeline; the rest cross-checked against 2+ independent sources where vendors block automated access (Midjourney, Canva, Perplexity and others). Every tool page carries its verification date. Where we got something wrong — like TrendSpider above — we say so in the open. Full methodology →
